“Beyond the Water-land” sliding scale $900-3000

Beyond the water-land is a play of word on beyond the mother-land. From my visit to Santiago Yeche, my grandmother told us tales and stories of her past— of those who she knew, of those who passed away. With this piece I wanted to depict the relationship between ancient tales and the ones we are building everyday as a society. The two mountains in the back represent two volcanos that surround the city I grew up in, Mexico City. The Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl are somehow living physical landmarks of a legend passed down— volcanos with the silhouettes of a woman laying down and a man kneeling, mourning, next to her. Now, we build our own stories that our words do not suffice enough to describe, only to feel and experience. This is a magical-realism piece of how our minds will never stop creating, experiencing, but will always be fed by a stream of familial past consciousness that flows down into us through a molten river of their stories.
